What's the best thing that I've done for myself this year? Granted, the year is young, but it's always nice to start off on the right foot. So after months of deliberating, I had a come-to-Jesus moment with myself and said...it's time. I joined a new gym. With daycare. For those of you who know me, or if you've been following this blog for awhile, you know that I love to exercise. It's in my DNA. I'm not a ball-player or into team sports, I just like to run. And ride my bike. And do yoga. And work-out. And I like to do it a lot. When I can't find the time to fit it in, I get a little bit cranky. Those who are close to me have come to adapt and I try to maintain some perspective when life gets in the way. But, bottom line is, I'm just a lot more pleasant to be around when I've gotten the endorphins flowing for awhile.
When you become a mother for the first time on the cusp of your 43rd birthday, you've also been used to doing things a certain way for a long time. I've made a lot of necessary adjustments to my life in the last year and a half, especially when it comes to things like long bike rides first thing in the morning.
But I do like a good sweat. And lately, running up and down very steep hills with a 32 pound child in her chariot is putting a real strain on the old hip joints. I needed some new options. And I couldn't be happier. Jasmine loves to go to the gym, the babysitting center is flawless, the spin classes are fun and the remodeled women's locker room supplies towels AND blowdryers. There's an outdoor pool, hot tub and sauna, none of which I've tried yet. I'm pretty darned pleased. I won't be reporting about any 15 mile runs for awhile, but I'm good with that.

I did the same thing shortly after Emilia came home. I used to be a marathoner, but 2 kids and one knee surgery later I'm just happy to get 30 minutes on the elliptical. Enjoy!
